It has been announced that the 20th Fez Sacred Music Festival (Le Festival de Fès des Musiques Sacrées du Monde) will take place from Friday 13 to Saturday 21 June 2014.

The aim of the Festival is to harness the arts and spirituality in the service of human and social development, and the relationship between peoples and cultures. The theme of the 2014 Festival is “Conference of the Birds”, a journey through all the cultures of the world that have been showcased over the last twenty years of the Festival.

Now in its twentieth year, the Festival began as a peace initiative following the first Gulf war and is now a very much established part of the world music and arts scene. It usually boasts not only traditional acts from all over the world including from places as diverse as Morocco, Tibet, Mali, Turkey, Bali and the US, but also Jazz, Opera and Gospel. A particular highlight are the various performances by Sufi dancers and musicians from all over the world. In addition, this year there will be a headline performance “A tribute to Nelson Mandela” from the renowned Senegalese singer, Youssou N’Dour. The precise programme is on the official festival website: http://www.fesfestival.com

This is the busiest time of the year in Fez so book early to avoid disappointment.
